Iran’s private sector produces 893,200 tons of steel products

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran 's private sector produced 893,200 metric tons of steel products in the first two months of the current Iranian fiscal year, which began on March 21.

Crude steel output of the private sector hit 342,300 metric tons in the mentioned period, Iran 's IRNA news agency reported July 6.

Private sector units manufactured 509,900 metric tons of round bars, 222,000 metric tons of sheets, 89,000 metric tons of angle bars and belts, as well as 72,300 metric tons of beams.

Iran's annual crude steel production hit 16 million metric tons in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2015).

Iran exported about $366 million iron ore (decreased 54.4 percent Y/Y) as well as above $2 billion worth of steel, iron and cast iron products, while imported $3.34 billion worth of iron and cast iron products during last fiscal year, ended on March 20, according to custom statistics.

Iran produced 1,366 thousand metric tons, 1,409 thousand metric tons, and 1,315 thousand metric tons of steel from January to March, according to The World Steel Association's statistics.

Iran's steel production level increased from 7,869 thousand metric tons in 2003 to 15,422 thousand metric tons in 2013, according to the association's statistics.

Iran's official statistics indicate that the country's steel production increased by 7.4 percent to 16,805 thousand metric tons during the last fiscal year.
