Iran and India are preparing to strike a deal whereby Iran would export gas to the south Asian country.

CEO of Iran's National Gas Export Company Alireza Kameli said talks with an Indian company are underway on gas export, adding that Iran is ready to sign the contract.

After Indians left the IPI(Iran-Pakistan-India) project, India returned to Iran for gas in the form of a consortium of a number of companies headed by SAGE (South Asia Gas Enterprise), he added, Shana news agency reported July 25.

Kameli said the Indian company is waiting for the removal of sanctions on Iran to start funding the pipeline.

SAGE had earlier announced launching the pipeline would take no more than four years.

If the project is carried out, the pipeline will stretch over 1400 kilometers to break the record of the Norway-England pipe which is 1200 kilometers as the world's longest existing underwater gas pipeline, the official noted.

After a recent deal with world powers on July 25, Iran is expecting the removal of economic sanctions so that it can start expanding its relations with other countries.

BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2015 shows that Iran possesses the world's largest proven natural gas reserves, at 34 trillion cubic meters - or 18.2 percent of the world's total proven reserves.
