Baku, Azerbaijan, July 27

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran is willing to launch joint production lines with foreign aviation companies, said Masoud Qasemi, vice chairman of the Iranian Aviation and Space Industries Association.

The best method is to negotiate with renowned plane makers for launching wide body aircraft production lines in the country, Iran's Mehr news agency quoted Qasemi as saying July 27.

This issue causes not only a move toward meeting the domestic market's need, but also to replace foreign products with domestically manufactured ones and indigenize the related technology, he said.

"Large aviation companies do not want to lose the Iranian market. They know that Iran needs 500 planes for the next 15 years. We should not lose this advantage. We should meet a portion of the domestic market's need by manufacturing inside the country."

Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi said on July 15 that Iranian airlines are negotiating with a number of large international aircraft producers to renovate their aviation fleet.

Akhoundi said in June that the country would need 400 new passenger planes in the next 10 years in order to renovate its civil aviation fleet.

Purchasing this number of planes will cost the country at least $20 billion, he added.
