Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 8

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The development of Iran's South Pars gas field phase 12 is complete by 98 percent, Rasoul Fallahnejad, the project manager of Phase 12, said.

Drilling operations at the platform B of the phase 12 has been terminated, Iran's Shana news agency quoted Fallahnejad as saying on August 8.

Hopefully, the phase 12 will reach its maximum capacity of 68 million cubic meters per day by winter, he noted.

Phase 12 is the biggest phase of the gas field with the projected output capacity of 85 million cubic meters per day.

The phase is also projected to produce 120,000 barrels of gas condensates and 750 metric tons of sulfur daily.

South Pars, a non-associated gas field located offshore in the middle of the Gulf, is Iran's largest gas field. South Pars is a portion of a larger gas structure that straddles the territorial water borders of Iran and Qatar. It is called the North field in Qatar.

Iran says it boosted gas production from the South Pars gas field by 50 mcm per day in the past fiscal year, which ended on March 20. Last year, the output capacity increased by 100 mcm/d and hit 300 mcm/d.

Iran plans to inaugurate all phases of the gas field by 2018 and boost its output of this field to 720 mcm/d.
