Baku, Azerbaijan, August 25
By Khalid Kazimov -- Trend:

Iran's satellite hub was inaugurated with the country's Communications and Information technology Minister Mahmoud Vaezi.

Called Homa, the satellite hub has been on agenda for 12 years, IRNA news agency reported August 25.

The hub is to provide communication services to remote areas of the country, islands, oil platforms, and moving objects such as trains, airplanes, and ships, CEO of Infrastructural Communication Company Mahmoud Khosravi said during the unveiling ceremony.
Vaezi had said August 18 that Iran has plans to build two new satellites.

A telecommunication satellite is going to be ready in three years while another remote-sensing satellite is also on the agenda, he said.

The telecommunication satellite is going to be Iran 's national satellite to cover a broad range of services from banking to mobile and internet service providers as well as meteorological services.

Iran launched its first indigenous satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009, and also sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into space in February 2010, using the indigenous Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.
