By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Over 955 million cubic meters of natural gas was stored at Iran's Sarajeh facility.

Houshang Mehrdadfar, an official at the National Iranian Gas Company, said more than 7.8 mcm of gas is injected to the facility per day, Iran's Shana news agency reported Sept. 16.

Storing 1.3 billion cubic meters of gas at the facility is on the agenda, he noted.

In the past Iranian fiscal year, ended on March 20, injecting gas to Sarajeh rose by 35 percent and hit 1.24 bcm, he said.

The figure will increase to 1.3 bcm by Oct. 22, he added.

National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) plans to establish five new gas storage facilities with the goal of boosting the country's gas storage capacity, said Abdolhossein Samari, the deputy director of NIGC, in July.

Currently, the Nasrabad and the Yurtsha projects are underway, he said, adding that the Qezeltappeh project is also on the agenda.

The country has two gas storage facilities, Shourijeh and Serajeh.

Iran injected about 15 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to these storage facilities last Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20, and has the capacity to increase the volume to 20 million cubic meters per day using the existing facilities, according to Samari.
