An official with the National Iranian Petrochemical Industries Company has said according to a recent decree by President Hassan Rouhani, Iran is going to give discounts of 20 to 30 percent on gas sold to foreign companies investing in the country's petrochemical projects.

The foreign companies that fully develop the chain of upstream, midstream, and downstream sections of a petrochemical complex will get a 20 percent discount on gas they buy, Marzieh Shahdaei, project manager at the National Iranian Petrochemical Industries Company said, Mehr news agency reported Oct. 20.

She added that companies that build petrochemical units in underdeveloped areas of the country will receive a 30 percent discount on gas they buy.

The official said that the discounts are not the only offering that the Iranian government would provide to the companies.

Access to free waters, huge reserves of natural gas, good infrastructure at shores and other areas, as well as closeness to the consumption market are other bonuses of investing in Iran's petrochemical industry, she said.

CEO of the National Iranian Petrochemical Company Abbas Sheri Moqaddam said in April that some $30 billion of investment opportunities have been identified in Iran's petrochemical sector, which will be certainly welcomed by European and Asian investors after the sanctions against the country are lifted.

In June 2014, Sheri Moqaddam said Iran plans to boost annual petrochemical production capacity to 180 million tons from around 60 million tons currently.
