Iranian experts successfully overhauled a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft, the official IRNA news agency reported Nov. 2.

The plane was overhauled after 30,000 person-hour works at the Shahid Doran Air Base in Shiraz, southern Iran.

The airplane made successful test flights after the overhaul and joined to army air fleet after being grounded for ten years.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin.

Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport aircraft.

Iranian media outlets reported that in recent years, Tehran has taken great strides in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

On Sept.9, Iranian media outlets reported that the Islamic Republic experts have overhauled the US-made F-4 and F-14 fighter jet successfully.

Last year the Iranian Air Force experts also reportedly overhauled several Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets successfully for the first time.
