Iran’s car output decreases by 12%

Iranian carmakers produced 548,461 cars in the first seven months of the current Iranian fiscal year, which began on March 21.

The figure indicates a fall by 12.2 percent compared to the same period in the past year, Iran's industry, mines and trade ministry reported Nov. 8.

During the 7-month period, 503,221 sedan cars were produced, a 5.1 percent fall year on year.

Also, 38,239 pick-ups, 6,307 trucks, 376 buses, and 318 minibuses were manufactured in the period.

Iran's car output during the seventh calendar month of Mehr (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) stood at 47,046, 54.6 percent less compared to the same month of preceding year.

Iranian carmakers produced 42,810 sedans in the one-month period, indicating a 51.2 percent fall year on year.

More than 1.13 million cars were produced in Iran in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

Sedan cars output stood at 958,335 in the mentioned period, a 53 percent rise year on year.

Iran also produced 150,929 pickup trucks, 20,239 trucks, 482 buses, and 179 minibuses in the 12-month period.

Iran produced 989,110 cars in 2012, which made the country Asia's eighth largest car manufacturer. Iran also stood at the world's 18th place in the mentioned year.

The Islamic Republic's automobile output faced a 40 percent decrease in 2012 due to the sanctions. The country was Asia's fifth largest car manufacturer in 2011, with a total output of 1,648,505.
