Gas delivery to Iranian power plants reaches 46 bcm

Gas delivery to Iranian power plants increased by 6.870 billion cubic meters (bcm) and reached 46 bcm during the first 255 days of the current fiscal year started on March 21, 2015.

Naser Ebrahimi, Director of Gas Distribution Department of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has said that his organization on average has supplied 180 million cubic meters of gas per day to the power plants, Shana news agency reported Nov. 30.

He said that consumption of natural gas in the power plants has led to save other oil products.

He further added that in the same period 24 bcm of gas have been supplied to the industrial sector while the housing sector has received 45 bcm.

He further added the housing sector's figure for the same period of last year stood at 45.780 bcm.

According to the Iran Energy Ministry's report released Nov 2, during the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2.449 billion liters of diesel fuel, as well as 3.747 billion liters of fuel oil was supplied to power plants.

In total, 185.881 billion kWh of electricity was produced during this period, of which 6.258 billion kWh (unchanged Y/Y) was exported. Iran also imported 2.479 billion kWh (+12 percent) of electricity for energy.

Additionally, Iran added 592 MW of power production to its capacity, to reach 73,744 MW during the current fiscal year, while an additional 1,700 MW power generation capacity is projected to become available by March 20, 2016.

Also, the housing sector consumed 31.3 percent of the total electricity used in this period, while this figure was 32.4 percent last year. The share of the industrial sector consuming electricity decreased from 33.8 percent last year to 33.1 percent in the current year.
