Iran, Sweden eye expansion of bilateral ties

At a meeting with Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg on December 6, Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh called for expansion of bilateral ties after in a post-sanction era.

Zanganeh termed energy efficiency, petrochemical industry as well as making machinery and equipment as the most important field of cooperation between Iran and Sweden.

He called for making oil equipment in Iran with the cooperation of Swedish companies and said after making equipment in Iran they can be exported to the regional countries, Shana news agency reported Dec.6.

Speaking about the possible cooperation between Iran and Sweden on petrochemical industry, the petroleum minister said that Iran has an access to the most inexpensive petrochemical feedstock in the region.

Saying that Volvo and Scania companies are already active in Iran, he called for modernizing the country's transportation system.

According to a July deal between Iran and the world powers, financial sanctions imposed by the West against Iran, its banking system and industry over Tehran's nuclear program, are expected to be lifted in return for scaling down the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

Iran has conducted lots of meetings with foreign investors to renew its aging industry and ailing economic system, in preparation for the lifting of international sanctions.

Iran expects that the landmark nuclear deal reached with the world powers, under which most of its nuclear sanctions will be removed in return for scaling down its nuclear program, to be implemented at the first quarter of coming year.
