Airlines have burned about 362 million liters of fuel over the last three months in Iran, Ali Harandi, an official with Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, said Dec. 28.

Harandi said that passenger airlines used about 361.85 million liters of fuel between Sept. 23 and Dec. 21, Shana news agency reported.

According to the report, Iran annually distributes over 1.52 billion liters of fuel in airports across the country.

Earlier in September, it was reported that Iranian airlines owed some $291 million to the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC).

Mahan Air topped the list of the airlines owing to the NIORDC, followed by Aseman, Iran Air, and Iran Air Tour.

Meanwhile, Iranian oil ministry officials have announced in numerous occasions that the ministry could not take any measures to receive the debts, nor could it suspend supplying fuel to airlines.
