Tehran, Iran, January 19

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

It is Iran's strategy to export gas to Europe, the country's Deputy Oil Minister in International and Trade Affairs Amir Hossein Zamaninia said.

He made the remarks at the press conference with visiting Slovak Deputy PM and Minister of Finance Peter Kažimír, who arrived in Iran leading a 40-man business delegation.

Zamaninia said although gas export to Europe is not feasible at the moment, it is regarded as a long-term strategy by both Iran and the European countries.

Europe is currently facing a surplus of gas supply, which has resulted in low prices for the available gas.

As stretching a pipeline to Europe is not economical, Iran is considering LNG as an alternative. The country, however, has not yet started any LNG production.

Zamaninia said Slovakia has announced willingness to store gas in Iran, adding a delegation is due to visit Tehran to discuss the case.
