Iran decreases power export to Turkey, ups to Iraq

Iran has decreased electricity exports to Turkey, and increased the power delivery to Iraq, Iran's deputy of energy minister Houshang Falahatian told Fars news agency on Jan.27.

Falahatian explained that the export of electricity to Turkey decline due to country's demand in Iran's electricity.

The official also commented on rumors that Iran has lowered the price for electricity exports to Iraq from 12 cents to 10 cents per kWh. Falahatian confirmed the news, saying the exact price is fluctuating, depending on the oil price.

He didn't mention any figure about the exact amount of power exports.

Iran exported 9.66 billion kWh of electricity during last fiscal year, ended on March 21, while the shares of Turkey and Iraq was 22.6 percent and 62.8 percent respectively.

According to the latest weekly report, released by Iran's Energy Ministry, the country's electricity export during 300 days of current fiscal year increased by 5 percent to 8.496 billion kWh.

Falahatian said that Iran's power export to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan increased relatively altogether year-to-year.

The mentioned three countries shared 75.9 percent of Iran's total power export last year.
