Some 48 percent of total export revenues among top 500 Iranian companies in the past fiscal year (March 2014-March 2015) accounted for petrochemical companies, followed by oil product exporters and industrial exporters, with 12 percent and 10 percent shares respectively, according to the SHANA news agency.

The first five high-ranking groups of companies included those engaged in banking, oil products, petrochemicals, automotive, and metals industries, SHANA quoted Majid Darvish, director of the center for ranking Iranian top companies, as saying Jan. 27.

Sale shares of the five groups were 26 percent, 16 percent, 12 percent, five percent, and five percent, respectively, he said.

Meanwhile, the managing director of the Industrial Management Organization of Iran, Mohammad Ali Mohammadi, who is tasked with introducing Iran's Top 100 Companies (IMI 100) annually, said the top 100 companies accounted for 85 percent of the total sales. Moreover, the top 100 companies held a 71.3 percent share of job creation and 84.4 percent of exports.

In Iranian fiscal year of 1391 (March 2012-March 2013), nominal sale of the top 500 companies grew by 32 percent, SHANA quoted Mohammadi as saying Jan. 27.

Considering the inflation rate of 34.7 percent, the real growth rate will be 12.8 percent. In the fiscal year of 1393 (March 2014-March 2015), nominal sale grew by 19.10 percent. Considering the inflation rate at 15.5 percent, the real growth rate will be 3.5 percent," he explained.

Iran's petrochemical sector has set an annual output target of around 129 million tons by the end of the country's sixth five-year development plan (2021).

The country produced 44.5 million tons of petrochemicals in the past Iranian calendar year, with over 10 percent rise from 40.5 million tons in its preceding year.
