Iran’s imports from US fall

The United States exported 149,600 tons of goods, worth $149 million to Iran during the one-year period to March 20, according to the Iranian Customs Administration's latest report. The US exports to Iran indicates a fall by 3.4 percent in terms of value compared to the same period of last year. Iran also exported 351 tons of goods, worth $10 million to the United States in the last fiscal year.

The Islamic Republic has recently banned the import and distribution of consumer goods from the United States. The Trade Promotion Organization of Iran published the names of 227 goods subject to the import ban in December 2015, which includes an assortment of goods, ranging from chewing gums, cigarettes and appliances to defense equipment such as tanks and armored vehicle.

Over the last Iranian fiscal year, the country imported $41.5 billion worth of goods, 22.5 percent less year on year.

The volume of country's imports accounted for 35.1 million tons, indicating 18.5 percent fall. Tehran's overall non-oil trade turnover stood at $83.914 billion during the last fiscal year.
