The latest report from Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade suggests that the number of the permissions issued by the ministry for launching industrial units over the last calendar year (started March 20) dropped by 14.2 percent compared to the preceding year.

Meanwhile, the number of the workers employed in Iran's industrial sector has decreased by 11.5 percent, Mehr news agency reported May 25.

Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, minister of industry, mining and trade, earlier confirmed the weak performance in the industrial sector, pledging to give a boost to the country's industry in the new calendar year, which started March 20.

While the Islamic Republic had zero percent GDP growth in 2015, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) foresees a 4-percent GDP growth for Iran in 2016, and a 3.7-percent GDP growth in 2017.
