Tehran, Iran, June 29

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

The construction of a gas pipeline from Iran to Iraq has been accomplished. However, the two countries are waiting for security situations in Iraq to grow normal before they start transferring gas.

“We are waiting for Iraq to announce readiness so that we may proceed with further actions,” CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company Alireza Kamali told ISNA June 29.

Iraq currently faces dire security situations because the Islamic State (aka IS, ISIS, ISIL, Daesh) has taken large swathes of land from the country.

The Iran-Iraq gas pipeline was delivered to its operator in mid-March.

According to agreements, Iran will export 35 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq per day via the pipeline.
