By Emil Ilgar – Trend:

Iran's gas oil consumption decreased by 20 million liters per day (ml/d), Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said July 20.

He said the implementation of the plan that allows allocating subsidized fuel for vehicles based on the distance they pass (indicated by the global positioning system (GPS) of the vehicles) was the major reason for cutting diesel consumption.

He didn't mention a specific figure, but before, Nasser Sajjadi, managing director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), said the new subsidized fuel distribution system led to decreasing gas oil consumption by 7.5 ml/d to 42-43 ml/d.

Iran also decreased diesel burning in power plants.

According to the latest weekly statistics of Energy Ministry, Iran has decreased gas oil burning in power sector by 32.4 percent to 406 ml/d in the first 111 days of current fiscal year (started on March 20).

So, the country’s power plants consumed about 1.2 ml/d less gas oil during the mentioned time as compared to the same period in the previous year.

According an official document, seen by Trend last month, Iran produced 89.39 ml/d of diesel last fiscal year, of which 13.1 ml/d was exported and bunkered.
