Computer games make $30B in Iran

The money raised through computer games in Iran amounts to 934.6 trillion rials ($30 billion), a new report says.

Twenty-three million out of Iran’s population of 79 million play computer games, 53 percent of whom play on a regular basis, the Iranian Digital Games Research Center said in a report published Aug. 10.

Of the gaming population, 63 percent is men and 37 is women, the report says, adding that while at least one person plays digital games in each Iranian household, four out of five households in the country have at least one media for playing such games.

The gamers age 21 in average and they have started gaming at around 6. This is while adolescents from 12 to 19 years of age comprise the biggest fans of computer games.

According to the report, the gamers play 79 minutes per day. Sixty-nine percent of them have access to the internet, but only 39 percent play online games.

This is while 93 percent of the games play alone, 30 percent play with family, 19 percent with friends, 13 percent with relatives, and 9 percent with strangers.

Fifty-nine percent of the Iranian gamers play from evening to late night, 30 percent from noon to evening, 8 percent from morning to noon, and 3 percent in midnight.

Five top reasons for the gamers to play the games are “the games’ joy, filling it idle time, being new, being low-cost, and providing a chance to do things that would cost too much in real life.”

Ninety-seven percent of the gamers chose home, 26 percent chose friends’ place, 24 percent chose public places, 10 percent chose vehicles, 4 percent chose workplace, and 2 percent chose their education places for playing games.

The top five genres chosen by Iranians are driving, escapade, mystery, horror and sports.

Clash of Clans has been the most popular game in Iran so far, the report asserts.
