Iran will send its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment to global markets by 2019, Ali Reza Kameli, head of National Iranian Gas Exports Company, said.

Iran seeks to export gas to the Europe in the form of LNG, Kameli said, Mehr news agency reported Aug. 29.

He referred to Iran LNG, Pars LNG and Persian LNG projects with an overall output capacity of 36 million tons per year as the country’s major LNG projects.

Kameli further said that the Islamic Republic is planning to obtain floating liquefied natural gas vessels (FLNG) as a solution for converting flaring gas into LNG in order to export gas to distant markets.

He said that Iran’s gas production is to continue increase over the coming three years to reach one billion cubic meters per day in 2019.

Iran's proven gas reserve stood at 34 trillion cubic meters as of early 2015, according to BP. The country's share on the world gas market is 17 percent.
