Iran details National Development Plan objectives

The government has added articles to the 6th National Development Plan bill as requested by the Parliament as a way to further clarify the plan, government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht told reporters in Tehran.

He explained that to achieve the economic growth rate of 8 percent by 2019, the country’s per capita product is planned to reach 6.7 percent, total factor productivity (TFP) to reach 2.8 percent, and gross fixed capital formation should stand at 15.4 percent.

According to Nobakht, to attain that goal Iran would need an annual investment of 7.24 billion rials ($232 million).

The government’s priorities, according to Nobakht, include strategic areas related to water and environment, development of Makran coastal area and suburban areas, mining and related industries, tourism, transportation with special regard for railways, science and technology, and energy.

Cross-sectional priorities, he further explained, will include the improvement of business atmosphere, youth employment, financing, and improving the livelihood of the underprivileged.
