Tehran, Iran, September 6

By Mehdi Sepahvand –- Trend:

By swapping oil with its northern neighbors, Iran will save hugely on energy resources that are needed for pumping oil through pipelines, an Iranian official said.

According to Hassan Baqerian, CEO of Tehran Oil Pipeline and Telecommunication Company, once Iran starts swapping oil with Caspian Sea littoral countries, the number of pump stations it needs to carry oil to Tabriz and Tehran refineries will reduce from 14 to 3, Mehr news agency reported September 6.

Iran is going to start swapping oil with some of its northern neighbors in the coming days. The country has already prepared facilities that are able to swap 120 thousand bpd of oil.

The Tehran Refinery alone is able to receive up to 250 thousand bpd of swapped oil.

Baqerian further said that 745 kilometers of pipelines used in the swaps will be smart pigged by two Russian companies.
