Iran allocates over $1.9B to local businesses

President Hassan Rouhani’s government has allocated financial help in nearly $2 billion to local businesses, over the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 20).

Iranian Government Spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said that the government has paid over $1.9 billion (60.57 trillion rials, according to official rate on Sep. 13) in credit facilities to help 7,977 production units in the country, IRNA news agency reported.

He made the remarks during a weekly press conference on Tuesday in Tehran.

He also added that the government has made efforts to pay off its debt to wheat farmers.

While Iranian Central Bank’s assets stood at about $160.69 billion by June 21, the government’s debts to the Central Bank hiked up by 34.9 percent during the mentioned period.

The government’s debt grew very rapidly during the administration of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
