Iran has put out the fire at a petrochemical unit in the south of the country on Sept. 14 morning, Mehr news agency reports.

The fire started at a pressure reduction station of Mobin Pars Petrochemical Co. in Asaluyeh, Bushehr Province.

“The fire has been completely contained,” said Abdollah Naderi, governor of Asaluyeh.

Bushehr Governorate-General Crisis Management Department’s Director Qasem Qaedi said the incident left four injured.

Earlier, the Iranian oil ministry’s SHANA news agency quoted Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, the director of Production Control in Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC), as saying that the fire will be extinguished once the gas in the pipeline is discharged.

“Gas pollution caused a problem in controlling system, which led to pressure increase and gas leakage,” Bossaqzadeh said explaining the causes of the fire.

In recent months a series of fires and explosions have occurred in major Iranian oil and gas facilities.

The first fire, which started on July 6 in the Bouali petrochemical plant on the Persian Gulf coast, was extinguished after three days. There were no fatalities, but damages are estimated at tens of millions of dollars and insurers say this could be the biggest compensation claim in Iran’s history.

Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh says that most of the incidents occur due to the privatized petrochemical companies’ cutting their health and safety inspection budgets.
