Water volume in Iran’s watercourses down 32%

Water volume in Iran’s watercourses has decreased by 32 percent, the Energy Ministry reported Sept. 16.

According to the report, water volume in Iran’s watercourses decreased by 19 billion cubic meters to 57.228 billion cubic meters in five months of the current fiscal year which started March 21.

The water volume was 83.933 billion cubic meters in the same period of the last fiscal year.

According to the ministry, the water volume in Iran’s watercourses that flow to the Caspian Sea decreased by 40 percent in five months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period of the last fiscal year.

Iran’s eastern regions faced the highest – 81 percent – decline in water volumes in the watercourses.
