Twelve Iranian oil tankers belonging to Iran's National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) have been rented by foreign companies following the removal of international sanctions last January, the NITC managing director, Ali Akbar Safaei said.
The company’s fleet has a capacity to load and carry 15.5 million tons of goods and products, Safaei said, Tasnim news agency reported Sept. 17.
He further said that negotiations are also underway with foreign companies on leasing more Iranian oil tankers.
The NITC owns 69 tankers and large vessels, according to Safaei.
Last May Safaei said that four Iranian oil tankers have been rented by Greek and Singaporean companies. At the same time, he announced that negotiations are also being held on the issue with Shell, BP and Total as well.
