Iran’s car import increases by 63%

Iran imported $16.709 billion worth of goods during the first five months of its current fiscal year (March 20-Aug. 21), which indicates a 2.8 percent decline, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Iran imported some 13.17 million tons of goods during that period which is 6.4 percent less compared to March 20- Aug. 21, 2015, according to the latest statistics released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

Car worth $687 million topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 3.6 percent share from the country's total imports' value. Iran's car imports indicate a rise by 63 percent year on year.

After car, car parts worth $680 million, rice worth $476 million, radar and radio navigation devices worth $453 million, corn fodder worth $427 million, soybean worth $413 million and medical drugs worth $396 million were other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic.

Tehran's car part import increased by 29 percent in terms of value, meanwhile corn fodder imports indicated a fall by 21 percent in terms of value year on year.

The country's rice imports witnessed a rise by 33 percent in terms of value, however the value of the imported drugs registered a fall by seven percent, according to the report.

The soybean imports also registered a rise by 24 percent year on year.

The Islamic Republic’s radar and radio navigation devices indicated a huge rise by 7521 percent in the first five months of current fiscal year compared to the same period of preceding year. Radar and radio navigation devices shared 2.4 percent of the country’s overall imports in terms of value.

The average price for each ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1269, which is 3.8 percent more than the previous year.
