Iran, Germany ink geology co-op deal

Iran and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in geology and mineral sectors.

The document was signed between Geological Survey and Mineral Explorations of Iran (GSI) and Germany’s Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Iranian Industry, Mines and Trade Ministry’s official SHATA news website reported Oct. 6.

The six-article deal envisages cooperation in mineral reserve research, use of new technologies in geology, new energy resources, exploration of water resources and climate change studies.

The cooperation document will be valid for five years and can be extended based on the two parties’ will.

Iran’s proven mineral reserves stand at 37 billion tons. The country ranks among 15 major mineral-rich countries of the world and exports its industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq, China, the United Arab Emirates, India and Afghanistan.
