The International Monetary Fund (IMF) President Christine Lagarde will hold negotiations with the US to remove obstacles on cooperation of Iran’s banking system with international monetary institutions.

In a meeting with Iran’s Economy Minister Ali Tayyebnia on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group in Washington DC, Lagarde said she will talk with US officials to expedite the process of reconnecting Iran’s banking system to leading world banks, Mehr news agency reported Oct. 11.

She confirmed that certain problems still exist regarding the cooperation of the Iranian banks with major international banks.

The IMF president further said that a new round of cooperation will be launched with Iran.

The IMF will submit its plans for cooperation with Iran on various fields, including training and exchange of experience and technical knowledge.

Tayyebnia, for his turn, welcomed the IMF’s effective interaction with the Islamic Republic.

He then explained the Iranian administration’s economic plans, referring to the inflation rate control and crisis management of sharp oil price decline as successful results of the Iranian government’s economy policy.

Tayyebnia also praised the latest IMF report about Iran’s economy, saying the report has a positive approach towards Iran’s economy and the Iranian government’s economic achievements.

IMF said in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report that Iran’s GDP growth for the current fiscal year, which started on March 21, is expected to reach 4.5 percent, however the economic growth will decrease in 2017 to 4.1 percent.

Iran’s GDP growth is expected to hit 4.3 percent in 2021, according to the report.
