Domestic flights in Iran increase by 20%

Domestic flights in Iran increased by 20 percent during the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Sept 21, 2016) compared to the same period last year, Iran Airports Company (IAC) announced.

Over 50,000 domestic flights as well as 22,102 international flights were carried out from 46 airports of the IAC during the six-month period.

Number of transit flights over Iran's air zone also increased by 10.5 percent to 94,497 during the first six months of the current Iranian fiscal year.

At least 2,098 military flights were carried out in the period, 2.2 percent less year-on-year.

The IAC also reported that over 40,680 flights were carried out in total from the 46 airports during the sixth Iranian calendar month (Aug. 21-Sept. 21) indicating a 23-percent increase.

Over 5.74 million passengers used the flights in Iran during the one-month period or by 23 percent more year-on-year, according to the report.

Also 54.15 million tons of cargos were transported via Iranian airports in the sixth Iranian calendar month, which is 17 percent more in comparison to the same period of preceding year.

Mehrabad Airport in Tehran topped the Iranian airports in terms of flights with over 12,061 flights (23 percent more year-on-year), followed by Mashhad International Airport (8,029 flights, 31 percent increase) and Imam Khomeini International Airport (5,303 flights, 7 percent more).

About 1.584 million passengers were transferred via the Mehrabad Airport (26 percent increase), meanwhile 1.206 million passengers used the Mashhad Airport in the one-month period.

Also 877,100 passengers used the Imam Khomeini International Airport.
