EU keen to help developing Iran’s rail technology

The European Union is interested in transferring rail technology to Iran, said Sian Prout, head of unit at Single European Rail Area.

Expressing interest in exchanging rail technology with Iran, he added that creating a digital single market for transportation as well as investment in the sector take priority on the European Union’s agenda, Mehr news agency reported.

According to the official, Policy making regarding transportation in the EU is considered as a significant issue as 13 percent of the budget of European households go to transportation sector.

He made the remarks during a quintet summit of railways launched in Tehran on Monday.

Railway companies of Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan have attended the summit.

The summit is aimed at developing rail cooperation among countries of Central Asia and Europe.

Iranian officials have been working on a plan to connect central Asian countries to Turkey and eventually Europe through the Islamic Republic’s railway system.
