Tehran, Iran, October 19

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

The second largest Iranian carmaker Saipa says it is in talks over a joint venture with Chinese companies in order to “turn into a regional car making hub”.

“Right now we are on good grounds to monopolize export markets…. Markets in countries around us are in demand of cheap cars. We may be able to export out products to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. China here can be a good trade partner for us,” Saipa CEO Mehdi Jamali told Persian Khodro news agency October 19.

“In our new contracts we are looking for investment methods that would create a joint market for the two sides,” he said.

He said Saipa and the Chinese Changan Automobile aim at making 5,500 CS35 SUVs by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year, adding the number will increase to 15,000 next year and 20,000 the year after.
