Siemens starts 3 transportation projects in Iran

German industrial group Siemens has launched three large transportation projects in Iran.

Iranian Minister of Transportation Abbas Akhoundi said Oct. 24 that Siemens is involved in three significant projects in transportation sector in the Islamic Republic, IRIB reported.

According to the minister, the projects include developing transportation systems in the suburbs of Tehran and Tabriz as well as increasing the speed of Tehran-Tabriz trains.

Akhoundi made the remarks at a joint press conference with the visiting Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany Alexander Dobrindt in Tehran.

The Iranian minister further added that the three projects would help facilitate the passenger and freight transportation in the country.

Other German companies will also contribute to the projects, particularly in installing electronic infrastructure, Akhoundi said.

The minister also noted that Iran will hold several international tenders for developing Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport as well as two other airports in Tabriz and Ahwaz cities.

Iran and Germany on Oct. 23 signed six memorandums of understanding for expansion of cooperation in transport sector.
