Talks over purchasing Iran’s oil appear to be on agenda during the ongoing visit to Tehran by President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani officially received Bakir Izetbegovic on Oct 25 in Tehran, IRNA news agency reporetd.

Although media reports suggest that the visit comes in a bid to promote mutual ties in political, economic and cultural arenas, talks over oil seems to be of priority as well.

Russian state-controlled oil company, JSC Zarubezhneft, which owns a refinery in Bosnia and Herzegovina had earlier launched talks with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) over purchasing the Islamic Republic’s oil, Ali Kardor, head of NIOC, was quoted as saying by Mehr news agency.

In addition to Bosnia and Herzegovina, several eastern European states including Belarus, Croatia, Serbia and Lithuania have already held talks with Iranian officials over oil purchase.

Following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA/ nuclear deal) Jan16 which was followed with the removal of nuclear related sanctions on the Islamic Republic, Tehran has made efforts aimed at exporting oil to Eastern Europe in a bid to diversify its crude oil customers.
