Iran expected to consume 209 bcm of gas this year

It is expected that some 209 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to be transferred through gas network to be consumed in the country during the current fiscal year, the managing director of National Gas Transformation Company Saeed Tavakkoli said, Shana reported Oct.31.

Iran’s fiscal year started on March 21.

During last year, Iran consumed about 190 bcm of sweet gas. The country’s gas consumption is expected to increase by 19 bcm year-on-year.

Iran produced 256 bcm of raw gas during the last fiscal year, of which 97 percent was methane. From this volume, more than 11 bcm was flared and 30 bcm was re-injected to oil fields to maintain the crude oil output.

Some 5.5 bcm of raw gas was also delivered to petrochemical power plants and the rest of volume was refined and the sweet gas output stood at 190 bcm.

Iran imported 9 bcm of Turkmen gas and exported about 8.4 bcm to Turkey during last year.

Iran plans to increase the raw gas production level by 100 million cubic meters per day byMarch 20, 2017, most of that would be realized in the coming months.
