Iran’s 7-month gas-to-power up by 8.2%

Iran delivered 42.776 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to power plants during the seven months of the current fiscal year (started on March 21).

The gas-to-power conversion increased by 8.2 percent year-on-year, according to the latest weekly report of Energy Ministry, published Nov. 1.

The report says some 2.553 billion liters of fuel oil and gas oil were also consumed in power sector in seven months, which indicates a 59-percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

During this period, about 1,793 megawatts (MW) was added to the power generation capacity and the figure stood at 75,896 MW. About 1,216 MW of new power generation capacity is also projected to be added to this volume by March 20, 2017.

During the seven months, Iran generated 188,046 billion kWh of electricity, of which 4.610 billion kWh was exported.

The country’s electricity exports decreased by 26 percent, while its imports increased by 9 percent to 2.695 billion kWh.
