By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

A trade delegation from Russia’s Volgograd province arrived in Iran’s northern Mazandaran province Nov. 2 to study economic cooperation opportunities.

The delegation is scheduled to visit production and industrial units as well as aquaculture centers in the province, Abdollah Mohajer, head of Mazandaran’s chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, said, IRNA news agency reported Nov. 2.

The delegation will also hold meetings with Iranian merchants and businessmen, Mohajer added.

Volgograd is the second province (oblast) of Russia after Astrakhan which has increased trade ties with Iran’s northern province of Mazandaran following the removal of nuclear sanctions last January.

Earlier in July, Alexander Zhilkin, the governor of Astrakhan, heading a trade and media delegation visited Mazandaran to negotiate on issues related to bilateral ties.

Mazandaran province exported $430 million worth of products abroad during last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2016), $12 million of which accounted for Russia, however the volume of exports to Russia had a 2.5-fold fall last fiscal year compared to the previous years.

Iran-Russia mutual trade turnover currently stands at $2 billion per year.
