By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran’s crude steel production capacity has reached 27.5 million tons per year, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, the Iranian industry minister, said.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of inauguration of two new steel production lines in Iran’s southwestern province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari on Nov. 8, IRNA news agency reported.

At present, Iran has a capacity to produce 10 million tons of hot rolled steel and 4,000 tons of galvanized and cold rolled steel, Nematzadeh said.

Iran’s actual steel output currently stands at 17 million tons, because the production process has not been completed well.

The Islamic Republic’s steel output throughout 2015 is estimated to have hit 16.11 million tons. This in its own turn shows a decline of 1.4 percent year-on-year.

Iran also produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.

The country’s crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than in preceding year.
