Iran’s gas usage in the housing sector has increased by 125 percent on Nov.22 (to about 400 million cubic meters per day), compared to eight months average in current fiscal year (March 20-November 21).

The volume is expected to increase to 450 mcm/d this week, IRNA quoted Majid Boujarzadeh, spokesman of National Iranian Gas Company, as saying.

During 8 months (255 days) of the current Iranian fiscal year, the average gas usage in the housing sector was about 170.1 mcm/d.

Boujarzadeh said that currently some 140-150 mcm/d of gas is being consumed in power plants and 100 mcm/d is being supplied to industrial sector.

During 8 months of the current fiscal year, Iran consumed about 201 mcm/d of gas in power sector and used about 89 mcm/d in industrial sector.

Iran produced 735 mcm/d of gas last year, of which 640 mcm/d was commercial gas during last fiscal year. For current fiscal year, Iran plans to increase both output and consumption by commencing new five phases of the South Pars gas field, which would add 100 mcm/d to the output capacity by the end of current fiscal year.
