Europe received 4.22 million tons or 31.2 million barrels of Iranian oil in January-August 2016, Eurostat’s latest statistics indicate.
This is the cumulative figure of imports of oil from Iran by Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, the Netherlands and Poland in the 8-month period after removal of sanctions on the Islamic Republic in January 2016.

France took about 51 percent of EU’s total oil import from Iran – 2.143 million tons – while Spain’s and Greece’s shares were 29 percent and 27 percent, respectively.
The EU was importing about 18 percent of Iran’s total crude oil export before 2012, when the sanctions were imposed on Iran.
