Iran’s CBI to open account in Swedish central bank

Iran’s Central Bank (CBI) wants to open account in Sweden's central bank, the Iranian government’s official website reported.

The proposal was presented by visiting Iran's Presidential Chief of Staff Mohammad Nahavandian to the Swedish officials during separate meetings on Dec. 9 with Minister of Finance Magdalena Andersson and the Minister of EU Affairs and Trade Ann Linde.

Nahavandian said that opening account of the CBI is Sweden central bank will be an “effective and practice” step in facilitating mutual economic ties, expressing hope that the issue will become operational as soon as possible.

The Swedish finance minister welcomed the proposal presented by Nahavandian, saying besides opening bank account, Sweden side is ready to study opening branches of Iranian banks in the European country.

In the meetings, Nahavandian also stressed that Iran and Sweden can boost cooperation in various economic fields such as energy, rail transport, information technology and environment.

He further called for accelerating development of the mutual ties.

Nahavandian also met with members of the International Council of Swedish Industry (NIR) and called on Swedish firms to get more engaged with Iran’s private sector, and the Swedish officials discussed investment opportunities in Iran.

Nahavandian arrived in Stockholm Dec. 8, to discuss boosting bilateral banking relations and financial cooperation.
