Mahshahr port city in southwestern Iran produces and exports 5,000 tons of dates per year, Gholam Abbas Oveisi, head of Association of Persian Gulf Heritage Lovers of Mahshahr, told Trend January 6.

“We are exporting to Russia, Kazakhstan and other post-Soviet states,” he said, noting that there is a plan to add other CIS countries, such as Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Georgia to the date markets.

According to Oveisi, Mahshahr has 2,000 hectares of land under the date palms, which is equal to 340,000 trees.
