Iran to impose 104%-tax on imported tobacco products

Iranian administration will impose a 104-percent tax for imported tobacco products, Ali Asghar Ramzi, head of Iran’s Center for Tobacco Planning and Supervision, said.

The decision was adopted during the Parliament’s session on the bill of the Sixth Development Plan, which covers five years starting from March 21, 2017, Ramzi said, the Iranian Industry, Mine, and Trade ministry’s SHATA news website reported.

Based on the bill, the domestic producers will pay 21 percept taxes, Ramzi said.

Foreign companies that produce tobacco products in Iran should pay 36 percent taxes, meanwhile the foreign producers with domestic partners will pay 31 percent.

Iran produced 32 billion cigarettes during the first nine months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Dec. 21, 2016), 56 percent more year-on-year.

Iran imported 3.7 billion cigarettes in the nine-month period, which is 67 percent less in comparison with March 20-Dec. 21, 2015.
