As the high-rise business center of Plasco in downtown Tehran collapsed, Iran’s clothing industry lost 0.6 percent of its job positions, Mehr news agency reported January 20.

Fire engulfed the 17-story high-rise, which housed a big clothes shopping center and sewing shops, on Jan. 19. The building collapsed as the fire-fighters were trying to extinguish the blaze.

560 production and trade units came down with the 54-year-old building. As it is estimated that an average of five people used to work in each unit, it can be said that some 3,000 jobs were lost when the building collapsed.
