By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

All airports which are under the governance of Iran Airports and Aviation Company(IAC) made 15 trillion rials revenues($463.5 million based on official exchange rate of 32,362 rials per each USD) during the last fiscal year(ended March 20, 2016), the company’s CEO Rahmatollah Mahabadi said.

However, he added that the company received only 13 trillion rials of the revenues, Fars news agency reported Jan. 22.

The revenues are not enough for development and renovation of the country’s 54 airports, Mahabadi said.

He further noted that Iranian airlines owe some 7 trillion rials to the IAC.

The aviation industry in Iran has been under harsh sanctions for over three decades, depriving the country of the chance to receive goods and services to develop airports or buy or maintain airplanes.

Mahabadi said earlier that airports which are under the governance of the IAC are unprofitable.

Even the Mehr Abad airport with a daily number of 400 flights is not profitable and faces losses, he said, adding that during the previous Iranian fiscal year, some organizations took 2.6 trillion rials from the revenues of airports.
