By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran welcomes Russia’s participation in a gas pipeline, which would be built to transfer the country’s gas to Europe, Hamidreza Araqi, Iran’s deputy oil minister, said.

Russians can participate in construction of Iran’s 9th cross-country gas pipeline which is estimated to be build with a $2.5 billion investment, Araqi, who heads National Iranian Gas Company(NIGC), said, Mehr news agency reported Jan. 23.

If the Iranian administration issues the needed licences the pipeline will be built under Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing (EPCF) Contract, he added.

Araqi further said that the NIGC prefers to hold an international tender for construction of the pipeline.

The 1,800 kilometer-long pipeline, with 17 gas pressure stations, will be built to transfer the country’s gas to Turkey and Europe, and to meet the gas shortage in the western parts of the country.

The pipeline starts in Assalouyeh port city, in the southern province of Bushehr, and stretches to the Bazargan border in north western Iran, and will carry 110 million cubic metres of gas per day.
