Iranian and Turkish central banks signed a memorandum of understanding to boost banking cooperation, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) said in a message.

The deal was signed by Mahmoud Yagoubi, deputy governor of CBI and Mehmet Taskin, deputy executive director at Central Bank of Turkey on the sidelines of the Iran-Turkey joint banking committee’s first session in Tehran on Jan. 25.

During the meeting the two parties discussed settling the obstacles of
expanding banking ties, integrating the two countries' payment systems
and using national currencies for bilateral trade.

The next meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held in March with participation of representatives from commercial banks and economic organizations of the two countries.

Last year, Iran and Turkey signed a MoU on banking cooperation and
agreed to setup joint banking committee.
