Iran’s copper ore output surpasses 130 million tons

Iran’s copper concentrate output amounted to 895,050 tons in the first ten months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2016-Jan. 20).

The figure indicates an increase by 11.2 percent as compared to the same period of the preceding year, IRNA news agency reported Feb. 6.

The country’s copper concentrate output reached 89,980 tons during the calendar month of Day (Dec. 21, 2016- Jan. 20).

Some 523,660 tons of copper concentrate was produced in Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex(4.1 percent increase), followed by Sungun copper company(248,396 tons, 35.3 percent more year-on-year) and Miduk copper mine (122,992 tons, 4.1 percent yearly increase) at the 10-month period.

Over 130 million tons of copper ore was extracted from mines in Iran during the first ten months of current Iranian year, 2.8 percent less year-on-year.

About 60.81 million tons of copper was extracted in Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex, followed by Sungun copper company (41.85 million tons) and Miduk copper mine (27.58 million tons) in the period.

Some 157,360 tons of cathode copper as well as 189,660 tons of anode copper were produced in Iran during the 10-month period.

Iran possesses the world’s second largest copper reserve. At present, six copper mines are operating in the country.

Iran’s copper production capacity stands at around 200,000 tons per year and the capacity is projected to double by March 2020.
