Iran, Belarus to form joint investment committee

Iran and Belarus signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint investment committee, the Iranian economy ministry’s SHADA news portal reported.

The deal was signed between Natalia Nikandrova, director of the National Agency of Investment and Privatization of Belarus and Mohammad Khazaei, Iran’s deputy economy minister on Feb. 6 in Tehran.

Khazaei, who heads the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran, said that the committee will hold its first meeting in the near future to discuss boosting mutual cooperation.

He said that the mutual trade between the two countries stands at $40 million per year, adding that Iran and Belarus should take serious steps in boosting economic and trade cooperation.

According to the roadmap drawn in May 2016 and signed in Minsk, the two countries set different commercial, industrial, joint venture projects to increase the trade exchange volume to $250 million at the end of 2017.

Tehran and Minsk had already agreed on launching truck production lines, as well as diesel and gas fueled buses, joint manufacturing mine machineries, production of bio-sensor upon nano-technology and micro-processors needed in medical industry, joint venture project to manufacture tractors, cooperation in petrochemical, fishery and agriculture.

The joint cooperation commission in year 2017 is to discuss issues like joint venture projects in different fields, using advanced technologies in agriculture, industry, medical, treatment, pharmaceuticals, construction and new materials, scientific and academic structures, exchanging professors and students.
